Manhyia, Kumasi- In a spirited display of civic duty and youthful vigor, the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Serwaa Nyarko Girls’ Senior High School, led by Hon. Shephriah Ntiamoah (President) and Hon. Manshura Mohammed (Vice President), took over the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, embarking on a massive cleanup exercise as part of their week-long celebration.
Armed with brooms, dustpans, rakes, and trash bags, hundreds of students moved into the Palace of Asantehene, transforming the historic grounds into a beacon of cleanliness.
The exercise, which is a hallmark of the school’s commitment to community service, saw students sweeping and collecting waste, much to the delight of palace functionaries and passersby. 
The initiative was part of the SRC Week celebrations, which were held under the theme “Painting Excellence Through a Thriving Mindset.”
Speaking to the SRC President after inspecting the work done, Hon. Ntiamoah Shephriah, emphasized that the theme was not just a slogan but a call to action. She noted that true excellence cannot be achieved in a chaotic or dirty environment, hence the decision to partner with the Palace to restore its beauty.
“For us at Serwaa Nyarko, excellence is not just about academics, excelling at the National Science and Maths Quiz, or winning trophies at ARSRC Telefest in Choreography, Drama, and Poetry; it is about the mindset we carry into every endeavor.
A thriving mindset compels us to serve our community and to leave every space we enter better than we found it.” Hon. Shephriah stated. “Cleaning the Manhyia Palace, the heart of our Asante heritage, is our way of painting a picture of excellence through service. We are honored to contribute our quota to preserving the dignity of this sacred place.” 
The Vice President of the SRC, Hon. Manshura Mohammed, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the symbolic importance of the exercise. She explained that the act of cleaning represents the core values of the school, which seeks to mold disciplined and responsible future leaders.
“This is more than just sweeping the floor; it is a practical lesson in leadership and humility. The Manhyia Palace symbolizes authority, tradition, and excellence. By cleaning it, we are telling ourselves and the world that we are ready to uphold these values,” Hon. Manshura Mohammed said. “Our theme calls us to ‘paint excellence,’ and what better canvas than the very grounds that define our culture? We are grateful to His Royal Majesty’s caretakers for allowing us to serve.”Serwaa Nyarko
Officials from the Manhyia Palace who observed the exercise expressed their profound gratitude to the students, the teaching and non-teaching staff of Serwaa Nyarko Girls’ SHS, praising them for their discipline and hard work. They noted that such gestures strengthen the bond between the traditional institution and the younger generation.
The cleanup marks one of the major activities in the school’s SRC week, which will also feature academic debates, a health walk, a grand beauty pageant, a dinner night, and many more.
As the students filed out of the palace gates with their tools, with their attires slightly stained from the day’s labor, the grounds of Manhyia stood spotless.
