Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, has reportedly been involved in a robbery incident in Vienna ahead of their international friendly match against Austria scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026.
A source within the Ghana Football Association confirmed that some members of the team were victims of theft during their stay in Austria.
According to Gabby Ofei of the Citi Sports Desk, who shared updates on Citi Prime News on Friday, March 27, 2026, valuables including $250,000 in cash and two Rolex watches belonging to members of the management committee and players were stolen from their hotel rooms.
He explained that reports indicate the stolen cash belonged to management committee members, while the Rolex watches were owned by some players.
He further revealed that the hotel’s CCTV cameras were not functioning at the time of the incident, making it difficult for Austrian police to quickly identify the suspects or gather strong evidence.
Due to the faulty surveillance system, the Ghana Football Association has been unable to provide adequate footage to assist Austrian authorities in their investigation.
Despite the unfortunate incident, team officials have assured that the situation remains under control, with players and the technical team staying calm and focused on their upcoming friendly match.
The Ghana Football Association also stated that it is collaborating closely with Austrian authorities and will release additional updates as more details emerge.
